One of the aspects that attracted my husband and I to our new home, was the neighborhood and the ability to entertain. We have always enjoyed having friends and family over, and now we have have a large flat yard for the kids to play in, a flat driveway for them to ride bikes and to play hockey, and a large eat-in-kitchen.
Some days I spend way too much time thinking of ideas & prepping food for visitors, but it’s something I enjoy doing. I love seeing the reactions & smiles, especially the shrieks of excitement when they kids spot a special snack or dessert. This past weekend I surprised the kids and all of their friends with a candy buffet and they were able to make their own ice cream cake treats.
Every so often we have a “make your own sundae” bar, but this time I decided to change things up a little bit and added in pieces of cake. I baked a yellow cake and diced it up into bite sized pieces and served both vanilla ice cream or sherbet. The kids were able to walk along the candy buffet and choose their own toppings including gumballs, Sixlets, Pearls, Candy Crumble, and whipped cream. Normally the highlight is the ice cream, but the variety of candy, especially the gumballs was the big hit
