5 Ways to Pass The Time On A Road Trip With Kids

parenting

For the next few weeks I will be partnering with Verizon to bring you additional information about their Fios services now available in the Boston area. One of our favorite features is the Verizon Fios Mobile app, which allows us to catch all of our favorite shows while on-the-go.

Ideas to Survive a Road Trip With Kids

Every year we pack up the car and head out on road trip to visit friends and family. Some trips we make more stops than others to try to break up the time, but no matter what it’s still about 36 hours of driving with young kids in the car. Through the years we have found new ways to help pass the time for the kids.  9 years ago when we embarked on our first road trip we had an overhead T.V. and DVD player installed for the little guy to watch movies, it no longer works but now they have iPads that we pre-load with games, movies, and T.V. shows which help to keep them entertained for a big chunk of the ride.

5 Ways to Help Pass the Time With Kids on Road Trips:

Snack container:

Whether it’s 4 hours in the car or 16, one of my favorite things to do is pack fun lunches or snacks for the kids. I prep all of the meals ahead of time in a reusable container and pack them in a cooler if needed. I tend to stick to healthier options like fruits and veggies but will also sometime toss in fruit snacks, pretzels, or a gummy worm to help boost their spirits when they’re stuck buckled into their carseats for an extended time.

Road Trip Hacks to Entertain Kids - Lego box

Lego box:

A few years ago I went out to lunch with a friend and her three children, the kids had started to louder as they were getting bored when she pulled out a few small containers filled with random LEGO pieces. The loud table instantly went quiet as each of the kids started creating different figures with their LEGOS. These small LEGO containers are perfect for keeping the kids entertained while you’re waiting at an appointment, traveling, or waiting for your meal at a restaurant.

Verizon Fios Mobile app:

One of our favorite apps to use on the go is the Verizon Fios Mobile app.  The Fios Mobile app also allows subscribers to watch thousands of movies and TV shows almost anywhere. Watch over 140 live T.V. channels on the go, and you can also rent or buy shows and watch them offline – perfect for when you’re in the car and don’t have internet connection. If you’re planning a long road trip, make sure to download all the shows or movies beforehand. The kids can watch their own favorite shows on their iPads, I can catch the latest HGTV episode on my iPhone, and my husband can watch the news when traveling.  Plus, if you’re a Verizon Wireless customer, like our family, you can stream, data-free, which is convenient for vacations and on the go. Live in the Boston area? See if Verizon Fios is now available, not only will you love watching your favorite shows almost anytime or anywhere, but their Internet speeds are super fast.

Road Trip Bingo Printable

Printable coloring pages & activities:

Print off pages, crossword puzzles, Road Trip Bingo, and scavenger hunts, and place them on in a three ring binder or a folder along with colored pencils or crayons.

Games:

  • I Spy
  • Alphabet Game – see who can spot the letters of the alphabet. Start with the letter “a”, “b”, then “c” and so on. Look at signs, license plates, and bumper stickers.
  • Number Game – Just like the Alaphabet game, see who can spot the next number. “1”, “2”, “3”, ect
