The expectations in Kindergarten have significantly increased since I went to school 20 years ago so we have been helping Tyler prepare as best that we can. For the past few weeks we have been using the EmbarK¹² Comprehensive preschool program which offers a fun and innovative approach to learning through hands-on materials and interactive multimedia.

The EmbarK12 Comprehensive- Online and hands-on preschool program for your early learner can be used as a primary preschool program or a supplemental program and offers 450+ online activities and 750+ hands on activities. It features 8 thematic units with six subjects: language arts, math, science, social studies, art, and music. Tyler was so excited to receive a box of materials for those hands-on activities which included a number of books, Three Bear Family Counters, Unifix Cubes, an inflatable globe, flash cards, magnify glass, magnetic letters and numbers, and more.
Every morning after my older son heads off to Kindergarten, Tyler and I sit down and have our own school time. We engage in education activities through hands-on experiences and the interactive multimedia on the EmbarK¹² website. His favorite has been exploring all of the materials that came with the program, especially the counting bears and magnetic letters and numbers where he’ll spell out his first name and last name every morning on the fridge. Having the physical materials has worked better for our family, as Tyler gets bored easily with just interactive multimedia.
While Tyler can count he doesn’t recognize some of the actual numbers so this past week we have been working on recognizing the numbers 6 and 7, as well as his colors, he still confuses blue, red, yellow, and orange. We have been using the Unifix Cubes, flash cards, counting bears, and magnetic letters to work on the color blue and yellow this week, last week he perfected green.
I look forward to using the EmbarK¹² Comprehensive program throughout the next year to prepare Tyler for Kindergarten. With over 288 hours of activities included in the program, there is plenty to keep us busy. I’ve already noticed an improvement in his color and number recognition in just a couple of weeks, and am excited to see him progress over the next year.
