Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken

While my husband is more of a red-meat kind of guy, I’m more of a chicken gal, and would eat chicken every day of the week. Since chicken has been cheap at our local Commissary I have been trying to find some new family recipes that we would all enjoy. I spotted this Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken on Pinterest last week and decided to give it a try.

Sweet and Sour Chicken
Chicken coating:
  • 3-4 boneless chicken breasts
  • salt & pepper
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
Sweet and sour sauce:
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tbs ketchup
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1 tbs soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • sesame seeds optional
  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Cut chicken breast into cubes. Season with salt & pepper to taste.
  3. Heat 1/4 cup olive oil in a large skillet.
  4. Dip chicken into the cornstarch to coat then dip into the eggs. Cook chicken in skillet until browned, it doesn't need to be cooked through, just lightly browned.
  5. Place in a 9×13 greased baking dish.
  6. Whisk together the sweet and sour sauce ingredients in a bowl then pour evenly over the chicken.
  7. Bake for one hour, turning chicken over every 15 minutes.
  8. Serve over rice, and top with sesame seeds. (optional)

Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken

The baked Sweet & Sour Chicken was delicious, our family of four had it devoured and the kids especially enjoyed it. I didn’t have to ask them once to sit at the table and finish their dinner, instead they were asking for seconds.

I just made this dish and it was wonderful. About 1/2 way through, I threw in some diced red and yellow pepper and they turned out perfect. I would also suggest doubling the sauce as you want your rice sopped with it! Very good and definitely a do-over!

I LOVE this recipe! I accidently forgot to dip it in egg the 2nd time I made it, and since we couldn’t tell a difference have eliminated that step. (one less dish to wash) Love your website, I got here from someone else’s blog.
