When I think of Banana Boat, I instantly thing of sun screen and fun in the sun. The kids love to spend the days outside, especially with all this warm weather. We usually head up to the lake house on the weekends to spend time swimming in the lake, going out on the boat, and playing my favorite game, ladder ball. Since we spend all day in the outside it is important to wear sunblock even on cloudy days.
Banana Boat has a number of products including sunscreen and tanning lotions and they recently introduced a new natural line of Banana Boat® Sunscreen called Natural Reflect Lotion. Natural Reflect comes in three different varieties: Natural Reflect, Natural Reflect Kids, and Natural Reflect Baby, all are SPF 50. The Natural Reflect lotions uses naturally sourced sunscreen actives that deflect UVA and UVB rays.
We had some friends over last week and had the opportunity to host a Banana Boat party and introduce them to the new Banana Boat line. Mom Central provided everything we needed for a party including gift bags, stickers, tissue paper, frisbees, coupons, and a full size sample of sunblock for each guest. Our friends were quite surprised to open their gift bags and see a full size bottle of Banana Boat Natural Reflect sunblock, most were expecting little one use sample packets, not a full sized bottle.
Before the kids started playing and before we headed out on the boat we made sure to apply sunblock. We made sure to leave an extra in the boat so that we could reapply after we got out of the water. My husband was the first to try out the new sun block. He is used to the spray on sun screen and put way too much Natural Reflect sun block on his face, he looked like a ghost and the kids as well as the adults a nice laugh. After my husbands excessive use, everyone learned to use less and rub it in good. There were many comments on how the lotion didn’t leave the lasting “sunblock” smell which I know I hate. With two young boys the Natural Reflect Kids was perfect for the boys, it is tear-free & sting-free, and is gentle on their delicate skin.
During the gathering we discussed our favorite games growing up. On the top of the list was Wiffle Ball, hide and go seek and T.V. Tag. My siblings and I loved playing T.V. Tag, we used to play it all summer long until one summer where I tripped over my sister and broke her collar bone, needless to say we never played it too much after that summer. Although the boys are too young to play T.V. Tag, there are a number of outdoor activities that they love including swimming, hiking, playing catch, riding bikes, and going out on the boat.
- Apply sunscreen at least 20 to 30 minutes before you head outside.
- Make sure to reapply sunscreen frequently, at least every two hours, and more often if children are dipping in and out of the pool, ocean or lake.
- Make sure you apply sunscreen no matter how old you are. Recent studies have shown that we get 25 percent of sun damage before we’re 18.
- The sun’s rays are strongest between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
- Winter, spring, summer or fall—sunscreen is needed all year round.
- Don’t forget to wear protection on cloudy days as well as sunny. UVB rays may be partially blocked by the grayness, but UVA rays are not.
BananaBoat® Sunscreen Natural Reflect Lotion is challenging parents across the country to take its 101 Days of Summer Play pledge and make a commitment to enable and encourage their children to play outside in the sun everyday, all season long. I took the pledge, will you?
For each pledge taken, a donation of one bottle of new Banana Boat Sunscreen Natural Reflect Lotion, up to 10,000 bottles, will go to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a nonprofit, residential summer camp and year-round center serving children coping with cancer and other serious illnesses.
