This week SocialMoms and Coca-Cola have teamed up and are asking readers to share a classic family recipe or fond family memory inspired by memories of Coca-Cola and mealtime. Honestly, I have never cooked or baked with Coke, and I do not know anyone who has, I have only used it to make floats, nothing like a nice cold glass of Coca-Cola with a little vanilla ice cream on top! Cooking with Coca-Cola products has never even crossed my mind about being an ingredient, but I will have to try it some day.

When I think of Coca-Cola I instantly think of the country store in North Conway, New Hampshire. Whenever we go up to our lake house in New Hampshire in the summer we usually drive to North Conway and spend the day shopping. There is always this one little country store that we stop for lunch that has the old style Coca-Cola bottles, that have the caps that you have to use a bottle opener to open. My mother would never let us drink soda when we were younger but going to the country store and getting the old style glass bottles of Coca-Cola was special, we felt like we were the coolest kids ever. We were not allowed to have a whole bottle to ourselves when I was younger, so my siblings and I used to always share one. I hated having to share one so as I got older I got to have my own glass bottle of Coca-Cola, I must have been about ten years old, I was so excited.

Growing up I used to think that those Coca-Cola bottles were the coolest and I still think they are today, and still continue to purchase them when we go to New Hampshire. I don’t think it will ever change, as long as that country store sells the glass bottles, I will continue to buy them on our summer trips. Now not only do I still see them in the country store in New Hampshire, but we also recently noticed them at the country store near my grandfather’s house in Vermont. Hopefully the country stores will continue to sell the old style Coca- Cola products, I would love to share the wonderful experience with Little Man and Baby Boy when they get older.

Do you have a family mealtime memory inspired by Coke? Have you ever used Coca-Cola in a recipe?
