I have always dreamed of making my own cakes. I would love to be able to make holiday cakes and cakes for my children's birthdays. I made Little Mans 1st Birthday Cake, I made him a Teddy Bear Cake. It turned out okay and I have vowed to get better before Baby Boy's First Birthday. To start off my new hobby of Cake Decorating I received the Wilton 53 Piece Cake Decorating Set.

My Experience: I decided to try and decorate a cake from the "Cake Decorating Beginner's Guide", I chose the Make-A-Wish Fish Cake. I had to buy the ingredients for the cake mix, frosting, as well as the candy, Leaf Green Icing Color & Lemon Yellow Icing Color.

Tools Needed:

• 8 x 2 in. Round Pan
• Metal Spatula
• Cake Board / Cardboard
• Foil Wrap
• Rolling Pin
• Paring Knife

Ingredients:

• Cake Mix (box or from scratch)
• Buttercream icing (box or from scratch)
• Leaf Green Icing Color
• Lemon Yellow Icing Color
• Red jelly candy slices
• Orange jelly candy slices
• Marshmallow, cut in half for the eye
• Small purple spice drops
• Chocolate Chip

Instructions:
Bake a 1-layer cake in a round pan. Cool the cake for about 10 minutes. Remove the cake from the pan and cool completely. Add crumb coating to cake with metal spatula.

Trace a round pan on a 14 in. cake board or cardboard. Draw in the top fin and tail against the 8 in. tracing on the board creating fish shape. Cut out the fish outline. wrap with foil. Arrange cake on the prepared board.

Combine the green and yellow icing colors to tint icing. Using the spatula, ice top in an up-and-down scallop motion to create a scale effect, then ice sides bringing down the same motion. For the eye, attach a Chocolate Chip to the Marshmallow using icing, place on the cake.

Cut the purple spice drops horizontally in half. Place on a flat surface sprinkled with granulated sugar and flatten with a rolling pin or your hand. Place the flattened spice drops on cake top.

Position the red jelly slices for lips. Position two orange jelly slices for side fins. Position orange slices stacked 3 high on cake sides for top and tail fins.
